Some background of my life in music:
I started out singing and playing the ukulele at age eight. Started playing accordion at age ten. Accordion was my main instrument through high school. In college my interests in music turned to trumpet and chamber and orchestral music. Jazz was always a part of my musical tastes. I started composing at age fifteen — well it was really making up jazz solos on accordion. I played in a small combo through my high school years. In fact my senior year our combo tried out for the Steve Allen show. Minneapolis ran auditions for about three days. Sadly we never we’re chosen for the Allen show, but we gained experience from our efforts. That same year after graduating’ our combo signed up for the Stan Kenton Clinics at the University Of Indiana. The clinic lasted for one week. Professional Players in jazz were paid to teach during those clinics. I studied from one of the then, great and popular, accordionist Art Van Damme. That Fall in 1963, I started college and from there I began really composing and it’s been part of my life for about 65 years.
I was drafted into the Army and played trumpet in Army Bands for three years. Most of my performing over my years in music has been with small groups. I started The Dorian Brass Quintet which lasted in one form or another for over 30 years.
When computers started arriving on the seen my composition also changed. After a few years of writing out manuscripts, I chose to go in another direction. I began using computers and software and recording everything on tape. When computers started to be more advanced. I could do everything on the computer and never went back to tape. So all an all I guess I have over 200 compositions now on the internet, but if no one knows my compositions are there, or how to find them, well, that’s why my Website comes in. I hope people will hear my music, and perhaps the’ll like some of it as well.
